Mr. Henderson is the Emergency Management officer at Goddard Space Flight Center. He has over 14 years of Emergency Management and Public Safety experience. Prior to coming to Goddard Mr. Henderson was a Deputy Emergency Manager for the City of Alexandria Virginia, Senior Emergency Management Specialist with FEMA, Training and Exercise Administrator for the Maryland Emergency Management and a Deputy Director of Emergency Management for the City of Baltimore.
Mr. Henderson started out his career as Fire Fighter/Paramedic for the City of Baltimore. He spent his time in the department in East Baltimore in one of the busiest firehouses in the city. During his time in the fire service, Mr. Henderson received three Distinguish Unit Citations and one Exemplary Performance award for rescuing a family from a submerged car during a flash flood. Mr. Henderson also received a Mayor’s Citation for his efforts in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Henderson has disaster response and incident management experience. During his time in Baltimore, he served as a Planning Section Chief for a Type III Incident Management Team that was responsible for preplanning during large scale events such as the Preakness Stakes. He is currently a member of the Central Maryland Urban Search and Rescue Team (MDTF2) as a Plans Manager. As a member of MDTF2 he was deployed to Saint Bernard’s Parrish in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Henderson holds a BS in Fire Science Management from the University of Maryland University College and an MS in Management from Johns Hopkins University. He received a certificate from the Fire and EMS Executive Leadership Program at Johns Hopkins University.
