Dr. Sheryl Ashton-Jones began her role as Chief Medical Office at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in October of 2015. Prior to her arrival at Goddard, she worked in the field of medicine and the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Ashton-Jones is a Virginia native. She attended Howard University where she received both her bachelors of science in Zoology in 1985 and her doctorate in medicine in 1994. She then completed a residency in internal medicine at the former Medical College of Pennsylvania, now Drexel University. After residency, Dr. Ashton-Jones returned to her roots to practice primary care in Fredericksburg, Virginia. After four years of primary care practice, she moved into the pharmaceutical industry, where she worked as a Senior Regional Medical and Research Specialist for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and later as a Senior Clinical Science Liaison with Questcor Pharmaceuticals. In addition, Dr. Ashton-Jones served as the Medical Director for Concentra Occupational and Urgent Care Clinics and worked as a medical consultant for veterans in the application of VA benefits.
