Mike ViensMichael Viens, joined NASA Goddard Space Flight Center 1986 and is currently the Chief Engineer for Quality and Reliability.  Prior to returning to Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate Michael worked in the Engineering Directorate where he served as Assistant Chief for Technology in the Mechanical Systems Division and Branch Head of the Materials Engineering Branch.  Prior to assuming the management responsibilities his duties included Engineer in Charge of several laboratories including, Mechanical Testing, Inorganic Analysis and Machining; Group Leader for the Metals Section coordinating the aforementioned labs as well as the Metallurgy, Non Destructive Evaluation and Electron Microscopy.  While serving as Branch Head for 12 years, he was responsible for the all Materials Engineering Branch operation which supports all ongoing GSFC Projects.

Prior to joining NASA he worked in the aircraft industry in Quality Engineering while pursuing his Mechanical Engineering degrees.  Michael served in the U.S. Coast Guard as Flight Mechanic on Sikorsky HH-3F helicopters prior to attending college.
