
Vera is a native of Los Angeles, California who traveled across the United States to attend Morgan State University where she majored in Biology.
After college she began working for the Veterans Administration in Los Angeles, California. She then relocated to Prince George’s County, Maryland where she applied to the Prince George’s County Health Department as an Environmental Health Specialist. In the 24 years while being employed Vera has worked many different positions within the Health Department. She has conducted over 3000+ food inspections at restaurants, grocery stores, nursing homes, schools, Six Flags Theme Park, Redskins Stadium, and University of MD. She has also worked with the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program, assisted in developing plans for protecting the residents, visitors and workers of Prince George’s County from Terror Attacks, Biochemical agents etc..
Vera is currently responsible for teaching the Health Department’s certified food service manager’s course for non-profit organizations to over 500 students annually. Vera teaches her classes in a way the students will come away knowing how to safely prepare, cook, store and serve food that will prevents food borne illness/disease.
She’s a proud parent of four beautiful children.
