Dann Brown is the Assistant Director for Engineering Safety and Compliance Management in the Engineering and Technology Directorate (Code 500) at Goddard Space Flight Center. In addition to managing the Safety program for NASA’s largest collection of engineers and technicians, he also oversees the directorate’s quality management system and ISO compliance. Dann has worked in Code 500 since 2016.

Prior to working in ETD, Dann was in Code 300, the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate supporting various flight projects, having joined NASA in 2009. In addition to his work on the Solar Dynamics Observatory and Global Precipitation Measurement projects, he served as the Chief Safety and Mission Assurance Officer on the Thermal Infrared Sensor instrument, the Landsat Data Continuity Mission observatory (later renamed Landsat 8), and the Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System instrument.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Rochester in 1989, Dann worked in the automotive industry supporting both OEMs and suppliers, as a validation engineer for FDA-regulated medical devices, and as a quality manager for a computer component manufacturer. He is an avid golfer and enjoys travel.

In his current role, Dann serves on the Center’s Management System Committee where he has been involved in rolling out the Agency’s tool for tracking functional work training, the Qualification, Certifications and Requirements Database, or QCARD.
