Don Goff joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary in April 2007.  He spent the past two years as Senior Advisor for Paddlecraft Safety to National Commodore Richard Washburn.  In that role, he developed an updated Coast Guard Paddlecraft Safety Instruction, created a national staff Division, and developed and published safety tools and kits.  He is liaison between the Auxiliary and the American Canoe Association, where he serves on the Safety Education and Instruction Council.  He is an ACA Kayak Touring instructor.

Since June 2008, he stood watches at Station Washington (DC) and was certified as an RBS boat crewman from January 2011 through December of 2018.  Other Auxiliary participation includes Flotilla and Division Commander, Instructor, Paddlecraft Operator and Qualifier, Auxiliary Coxswain, Qualifications Examiner, and various staff positions at the Flotilla, Division, District and National levels.

Dr. Goff is retired from AT&T, the Army Reserve and the University of Maryland, where he was Collegiate Professor and founding Executive Director of the Security Studies Laboratory. 

Don and his wife Veronica live in Falls Church, Virginia, where they provide staff support to two cats, go to the gym, watch baseball and Ultimate Frisbee, and paddle on Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac, Occoquan, and Shenandoah Rivers.
